Among the prison registers the personal data of the arrested ones who were taken to the prisons belong to the courts of Budapest, 1873−1923 have been recorded. The personal data of the prisons who stayed in the National Detention Center of Budapest 1896−1908 are attached to this group as well. Aside from this the uploading of the registers of convicts in the year 1951 of the Budapest National Prison, the successor of the Detention Center has been finished.

The database and the included names as well as other information apart from being exploitable from the aspect of family history, fill a gap regarding the Dualist era (no documents of the judicial and prosecution criminal cases of Budapest are known to be in existence). Concerning the period followed the World War I the registers through providing the reference number of the given award aid the archival research of the possibly remained judicial documents (this can happen in case of indication of the prisoners’ criminal records). The number of the prisoners included by the database is close to the 300,000.

Simultaneously with data recording the digitalization of the registers (books and files) was carried out (this process will continue). Thus the registers of the bulk of the prisoners are researchable through the internet. The digitalized registers and personal data of prisoners who were born after 1924 are subject to restriction alone.

Only the data uploaded from the prison registers to database can be found in the archival recording system, hence the recommended place of the research is the Hungaricana Cultural Heritage Portal.
